As the new FUJIFILM J Press is bleeding edge technology, the specifications and capabilities change sometimes daily we will attempt to update the details on this page as often as possible so that our clients can stay informed.
Digital Edge recieved their unit late February and it is one of two in North America and the first in Canada.
The FUJIFILM Digital Inkjet J Press
720 is a groundbreaking sheetfed
inkjet press that sets new standards
in digital printing and is poised to
revolutionize the business of short-
run work. The device brings together
Fujifilm's knowledge, expertise, and
R&D efforts to create a solution for
an area of the market where most
printer struggle to compete and
where a majority of print jobs reside. Combining the best features of both
offset and digital printing, Fujifilm's
J Press 720 is revolutionizing the
graphic communications industry.
With a 20" x 29" sheet size and a
speedy output of up to 2,700 sheets
per hour, it's the perfect solution for
printers looking for a product that
has the quality and robustness of an
offet press as well as the versatility
to handle the shortest of press runs.
Eco-Friendly Printing
Fujifilm leveraged its advanced chemical technology to develop water-based, eco-friendly
inks that enable bleed-free, high-quality images to be produced on a variety of coated stocks.
Because it uses a water-based ink, the J Press 720 requires less cleaning and produces less
waste, making it easier to maintain than standard offset press. In addition to eliminating excessive
paper waste, metal plates, the need for chemistry and coatings, harsh VOCs for clean-up and maintenance,
the sheets printed by the J Press 720 are easily de-inked and ready for recycling.

The J Press 720 uses Fujifilm Dimatix's SAMBA™ single pass piezo drop-on-demand inkjet head technology to achieve an impressive true 1,200dpi x 1,200dpi resolution with four-level gray scale (minimum size: two picolitres), a specification unobtainable from any other digital printing system. The press's four-level gray scale capability boasts color and quality never previously seen from a digital device. An integrated controller incorporates an advanced color management system and color calibration capabilities that maximize color consistency without requiring excessive intervention or expertise from the press operator.
The J Press 720 print speed is up to 2,700 29.5"x20.8" four-up size sheets per hour, or 10,800 8.5"x11" pages per hour, resulting in a product that offers offset quality and robustness plus the versatility to handle short press runs. The J Press 720 prints on coated offset stocks, allowing for printing on standard offset-sized sheets, a key advancement over most inkjet and digital presses which often require uncoated or pre-treated
papers.
Revolutionary Production Capability The Fujifilm Digital Inkjet J Press 720 has an incorporated infrared drying system, which means no drying time is necessary after printing so sheets are ready for finishing. The range of finishing options available is also much wider than with many other digital print technologies. Once imaged, sheets can be treated like an offset sheet, dropping into existing finishing equipment. Quality is enhanced through Fujifilm's unique "anti-curling" and "rapid coagulation ink" technologies, which deliver vibrant images and prevent paper curl and dot gain. The J Press 720 uses water-based, eco-friendly ink so there is no toner pile-up, resulting in an offset-like finish and quality. The water-based inks also mean the unit requires less cleaning and produces less waste. Outstanding quality is achieved sheet after sheet since the J Press 720 provides sustainable image quality with the use of a CCD sensor which scans every sheet and makes any necessary alteration in real time. Finally, the Fujifilm Digital Inkjet J Press 720 is capable of variable data printing, making it possible to fulfill custom, short-run orders.
